✍️ Meghan’s Poem
Poem by Meghan Claycomb
“Awakening”
Existing in a stillness deep,
level of an endless sleep
The sky is warm, like the break of dawn,
not the chill of darkness, all pain is gone.
In a room there sits a figure wise.
You can feel the peace of love in his eyes.
“My child, I know you cannot walk now, or even stand,
so let me hold you in the palm of my hand.
The struggles you’ll face will be very hard,
if you return to this life, now wounded and scarred.
You will lose old connections, but new pathways will grow,
You’ll create your art to new music, as well as sweet songs you know,
& I’ll be right beside you wherever you’ll go.”
& His spirit stays with me, across the seas into the skies.
A peace in my heart, from this moment, I opened my eyes.

💕 Why I Wanted to Share This
When I was desperately searching for ways to heal after my traumatic brain injury, I found Jodi House — www.jodihouse.org
It has become one of the brightest discoveries in my recovery.
Jodi House is an incredible nonprofit that serves brain injury survivors. They offer programs every weekday, both online and in person in Santa Barbara, creating a safe place to learn, connect, laugh, create, and heal together.
One of the things I admire most is that they never want finances to be a barrier to recovery. They offer a sliding-scale membership of up to just $15 per month, and if someone cannot afford it, they are still welcomed with open arms.
It was through Jodi House that I had the privilege of meeting Meghan Claycomb.
Meghan is an award-winning artist and fellow brain injury survivor whose creativity shines through many different forms of art. When I read this poem, I couldn’t hold back my tears. It is one of the most beautiful descriptions of hope, healing, and transformation that I have ever read.
One of the greatest gifts of my recovery has been connecting with other survivors.
Before finding this community, I often felt completely alone. Meeting people who truly understand this journey has given me hope on days when I needed it most. They’ve helped me realize that although my life has changed, it is far from over. There are still beautiful things I can create, meaningful friendships to build, and new ways to contribute to the world.
I hope Meghan’s words touch your heart the way they touched mine.
Thank you, Meghan, for allowing your light to shine. Your courage and creativity are inspiring, and I know your poem will bring comfort and hope to many others walking this path.
With love love,
Adeline ❤️
