The TBI Eightfold Path

Eight daily practices for healing after traumatic brain injury — built on hope, self-compassion, and love. A gentle map for becoming who you are meant to be.

The mantra

“You are not your injury. You are so much more.”

Eight daily practices for healing

Walk the path, one step at a time.

Adapted from ancient wisdom for the modern healing brain. There is no rush and no perfection here — only small, loving steps repeated daily.

1  🧠 Right Thinking

Train your brain — don’t believe every thought.

  • Look for hope.
  • Practice gratitude.
  • Focus on progress, not perfection.

Daily question: “Is this thought helping my brain heal?”

2  ❤️ Right Self-Compassion

Treat yourself like someone worth healing.

  • Speak kindly to yourself.
  • Rest without guilt.
  • Forgive yourself for mistakes.

Daily question: “Would I say this to someone I love?”

3  💬 Right Speech

Slow down before speaking.

  • Pause.
  • Choose kind words.
  • It’s okay to say, “I need a moment.”

Daily question: “Will these words bring peace?”

4  🏃 Right Action

Choose habits that help your brain recover.

  • Move your body.
  • Eat nourishing foods.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • Protect sleep.

Daily question: “Is this helping or hurting my healing?”

5  ⚡ Right Energy

Protect your brain battery.

  • Pace yourself.
  • Take breaks before you’re exhausted.
  • Say no when needed.

Daily question: “Am I spending my energy wisely?”

6  🎯 Right Attention

Be fully present.

  • Notice your breathing.
  • Do one thing at a time.
  • Reduce distractions.

Daily question: “Where is my attention right now?”

7  📖 Right Practice

Small steps, every day.

  • Brain exercises.
  • Journaling.
  • Meditation.
  • Creativity.
  • Therapy and support.

Daily question: “What one healthy habit will I practice today?”

8  ❤️ Right Purpose

Live for something bigger than your injury.

  • Help others.
  • Share your story.
  • Find meaning in each day.
  • Let love guide your choices.

Daily question: “Who can I encourage today?”

The Recovery Mantra

Say it softly, every morning.

  • 🧠 Think with hope.
  • ❤️ Love yourself.
  • 💬 Speak with kindness.
  • 🏃 Care for your body.
  • ⚡ Protect your energy.
  • 🎯 Be present.
  • 📖 Practice daily.
  • 🌍 Live with purpose.

“A healed life is not measured by returning to who you were, but by becoming who you are meant to be.”

Adeline’s survivor lens

Turning pain into purpose

A founder, creator, and TBI survivor.

A brain injury can be invisible, but the impact is real. People may look fine and still be fighting symptoms — overwhelmed by noise, exhausted by thinking, working overtime on the inside while the outside looks calm.

Before injury: high energy, leadership, creativity, fast decisions. After injury: new limits, new systems, and new courage. The goal is not pity — it is understanding, dignity, and safe support.

Love Love Brain turns pain into purpose.

  • Believe the limit before it becomes a crash.
  • Rest is not avoidance. It is recovery.
  • Limits are not laziness.
  • A survivor is still whole, valuable, and capable.

Language matters

Words can calm a nervous system — or make it harder. Whether you are a survivor, a caregiver, a doctor, or a friend, the way we speak is a form of care. Choose words that bring safety.

✅ Say this

  • “Take your time.”
  • “I believe you.”
  • “Would written steps help?”
  • “Would a quiet break help?”
  • “You do not have to explain everything to be respected.”

🚫 Gently avoid

  • “You seem fine.”
  • “Everyone forgets things.”
  • “Just push through it.”
  • “It can’t be that bad.”

A survivor should not have to prove their pain to be treated kindly. Respect the boundary. Support the need.
