Imagine your brain has a daily bank account. π°
Before my brain injury, I woke up with about π΅ 100 Brain Bucks every morning.
I could:
βοΈ Go to work
π Drive
π Run errands
π« Meet friends
π½οΈ Cook dinner
πΊ Watch a movie
By bedtime, I might have spent 90 Brain Bucks and still have 10 left.
I was tired… but I could still function.
β€οΈ Then everything changed.
After a brain injury, I might wake up with only π° 20 Brain Bucks.
Simple everyday tasks suddenly use much more energy:
π Getting dressed
π± Answering texts
π Driving to therapy
π Shopping in a noisy grocery store
π€ Trying to remember a conversation
Sometimes by 10:00 AM…
πΈ My Brain Bucks are gone.
β And when they run out, it isn’t laziness.
It’s neurofatigue. π§ β¨
Your brain has simply reached its limit for the day.
π The hardest part?
People can’t see it.
You may look perfectly fine on the outside while your brain feels like it’s trying to run a marathon with an empty battery. π
π Ways to Protect Your Brain Bucks
π€ Prioritize sleep whenever possible.
π₯€ Stay hydrated.
π₯ Eat regular meals with protein to fuel your brain.
π³ Take quiet breaks before you feel exhausted.
π§ Reduce noise with earplugs or noise-canceling headphones.
πΆοΈ Wear sunglasses if bright light feels overwhelming.
π Do your most important task when your Brain Bucks are fullest.
β Say “no” without guilt. Every “yes” costs Brain Bucks.
π§ Slow your breathing to help calm your nervous system.
π΅ Limit multitasking. One thing at a time saves energy.
πΆ Take a short walk or stretch gently to help reset your brain.
π€ Ask for help. Saving Brain Bucks is a strength – not a weakness.
π If you have a service dog or supportive companion, let them help when your brain needs a break.
β€οΈ Most importantly… be kind to yourself.
Recovery isn’t about doing more.
It’s about using your Brain Bucks wisely.
πΈ Remember
Your value is not measured by how many Brain Bucks you have today.
π΅ Some days you’ll have 10.
π° Some days you’ll have 50.
β¨ Some days you’ll surprise yourself.
Every day is different…
β€οΈ And that’s okay.
Protect your Brain Bucks.
Spend them on what matters most.
π¦ Your brain is healing – one day at a time. π
