Starting a new treatment isn’t always about deciding whether it might help.
Sometimes, the hardest part is overcoming the fear that comes before it.
For me, one of those fears was needles.
Like many people, I felt anxious about giving myself an injection. Even though I wanted to explore every opportunity to improve my brain injury recovery, that fear was very real.
In this third part of my tirzepatide journey, I share how I worked through those emotions and what helped me take that first step.
💉 Fear Is More Common Than We Think
Fear of needles affects millions of people.
Whether it’s anxiety about pain, uncertainty, or simply the thought of giving yourself an injection, these feelings are completely understandable.
When you’re already living with a brain injury or another chronic health condition, adding something new to your routine can feel overwhelming.
🧠 Courage Doesn’t Mean Fear Disappears
One lesson I’ve learned during recovery is that courage isn’t the absence of fear.
It’s choosing to move forward despite it.
Recovery has asked me to face many uncomfortable situations – from medical appointments and therapies to learning new skills and trying unfamiliar treatments.
Each small step has helped build confidence for the next one.
🌱 Healing Often Begins Outside Our Comfort Zone
Every recovery journey includes moments where we must decide whether fear will stop us or whether we’ll gently move through it.
That doesn’t mean rushing.
It means taking the time you need, asking questions, gathering information, and making decisions that feel right for you and your healthcare team.
Sometimes the biggest victory isn’t the treatment itself – it’s finding the confidence to begin.
⚖️ My Experience Is Personal
This series documents my personal journey with tirzepatide and brain injury recovery.
It is not medical advice, and everyone’s experience will be different.
If you’re considering any new medication or treatment, speak with your physician or healthcare provider to determine what’s appropriate for your individual needs.
