When most of us think about emotional regulation, we think about managing anger, fear, anxiety, or sadness.
But after my brain injury, I learned something surprising…
💛 Sometimes we also need to regulate happiness.
When our brains are healing, even positive emotions can make us act before we think.
🌞 1. Happiness still needs boundaries
Feeling good is wonderful.
But feeling good doesn’t mean every idea is a good idea.
Pause before making big decisions.
🎢 2. Excitement isn’t always the same as wisdom
A new project…
A new purchase…
A new relationship…
A new commitment…
Just because something feels exciting doesn’t always mean it’s right for you today.
Give your brain time to catch up.
🙋♀️ 3. Don’t say “yes” to everything
When I have a good day, I suddenly feel like I can do it all.
Then I remember…
Healing brains get tired.
Protect your energy, even on your best days.
💳 4. We can make impulsive choices when we’re happy too
Sometimes happiness leads to:
💸 Spending too much
🍕 Eating too much
🗣️ Talking too much
📅 Overbooking ourselves
❤️ Promising more than we can realistically do
Positive emotions still benefit from structure.
🌱 5. Consistency beats emotional highs
Recovery isn’t about having amazing days followed by crashes.
It’s about creating more peaceful, steady days.
Small wins add up.
🙏 6. Celebrate… then stay grounded
Celebrate every step forward.
Be grateful for progress.
But remember that healing is a marathon, not a sprint.
Keep following your routines, therapies, sleep schedule, medications, exercise, and healthy habits.
♥️ Love Love Brain Reminder
Your happiness is one of your greatest strengths.
Enjoy it.
Celebrate it.
Share it.
But don’t let it drive the car.
Let your values, your recovery plan, and your growing wisdom take the wheel.
Because a calm, steady brain often creates a happier life than emotional highs ever could.
You’ve got this. One thoughtful step at a time. ♥️🧠
