One of the hardest parts of living with a brain injury isn’t always the injury itself.
Sometimes, it’s hearing the word “no.”
Whether it’s being told a treatment isn’t available, a medication isn’t appropriate, or that there are no more options to try, those conversations can feel overwhelming and discouraging.
In Part 6 of my journey, I share how I’ve learned to navigate these difficult moments and why self-advocacy has become an essential part of my recovery.
🩺 Learning to Advocate for Yourself
Doctors bring valuable knowledge and experience, but they don’t always have every answer.
Sometimes a different specialist, a second opinion, or simply asking more questions can open new possibilities.
Being your own advocate doesn’t mean challenging your healthcare team – it means becoming an active participant in your care.
🧠 Recovery Isn’t Always a Straight Line
Healing after a brain injury often requires patience.
There may be setbacks, unexpected obstacles, and moments when it feels like progress has stopped.
Those moments can be frustrating, but they don’t necessarily mean your journey is over.
Sometimes a “no” today becomes a “yes” later with new information, different circumstances, or another medical opinion.
💙 Hope Doesn’t End with One Answer
One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that hope isn’t tied to a single doctor, treatment, or appointment.
Hope comes from continuing to learn, staying curious, and believing that your story is still unfolding.
Even when the path changes, recovery can continue.
⚖️ My Experience Is Personal
This video shares my personal experience navigating healthcare after a traumatic brain injury.
It is not medical advice and should never replace guidance from your physician or healthcare provider.
Every recovery journey is unique, and treatment decisions should always be made with your medical team.
