What if you didn’t have to face every uncertain moment alone?
What if you could release some of the fear and trust that life can unfold in ways you cannot always predict?
The Universe Has Your Back by Gabrielle Bernstein explores spirituality, fear, trust, love, and the idea of surrendering the need to control every outcome.
For someone living with brain injury, these ideas can feel especially relevant.
Recovery can bring enormous uncertainty.
We may not know exactly when we’ll feel better.
We may not know what our future will look like.
And we may spend a lot of energy trying to control things that are outside our control.
🌊 When You Don’t Know What Comes Next
Brain injury can create questions without immediate answers.
Will I recover?
How long will this take?
Will my life ever feel normal again?
What will happen to my career?
Will people understand me?
Not knowing can be frightening.
💭 The Need to Control Everything
When life feels uncertain, we may try to control every detail.
We research.
We plan.
We worry.
We replay conversations.
We imagine every possible outcome.
But sometimes the more we try to control uncertainty, the more anxious we become.
❤️ Choosing Love Over Fear
Bernstein’s message centers heavily on moving away from fear and toward love and trust.
For a survivor, that might mean asking:
Can I be gentle with myself today?
Can I trust myself to handle the next step?
Can I allow someone else to help me?
Can I believe that my future isn’t completely determined by what happened to me?
🌱 Surrender Doesn’t Mean Giving Up
Surrender can sound like giving up.
But it doesn’t have to mean that.
You can continue working toward recovery while releasing the need to know exactly how everything will turn out.
You can attend therapy.
Follow your care plan.
Ask questions.
Work toward your goals.
And still accept that some things are beyond your control.
🧠 Learning to Trust Again
Brain injury can affect your sense of safety.
Your body may feel unpredictable.
Your emotions may change.
Your abilities may fluctuate.
Learning to trust yourself again can take time.
🫶 Letting Others Support You
Sometimes trust means allowing someone else to help.
A caregiver.
A doctor.
A therapist.
A family member.
A friend.
You don’t have to carry everything alone.
🦋 There Can Still Be Possibility
Your life may look different from what you imagined.
But different doesn’t mean the story is finished.
There can still be connection.
Purpose.
Joy.
Love.
Growth.
Possibility.
💗 Love Love Brain Thoughts
We cannot control everything that happens to us.
But we can choose how gently we hold ourselves through uncertainty.
Maybe today doesn’t require all the answers.
Maybe today only requires one small act of trust.
Take the next step.
Release what you cannot control.
Stay open to what is still possible.
